In 13 years at Simpson, Lana Smith has built one of the top programs in the nation. A perennial contender for the Iowa Conference crown, the Storm are 252-196 under Smith’s leadership since 1999.  In the last six seasons, Simpson has won the Iowa Conference twice (2006, 2009) and appeared in the NCAA Tournament three times (2006, 2008, 2009). Smith earned Iowa Conference Coach of the Year honors in 2011.

Previously a highly successful Iowa high school coach, Smith has exceptional skills in facilitating camp sessions. Prior to taking over at Simpson, she led her Indianola High School team to five conference titles and four trips to the state tournament . She compiled a 243-89 record in nine years as head coach. Smith is able to closely relate to the challenges of today’s competitive high school volleyball programs.

Smith competed collegiately at the University of Iowa (1983-86) and remains among the top 15 in Hawkeye history in blocks, kills and service aces. She served as team captain as a senior.

In addition to serving as the Simpson College head Volleyball coach, Lana Smith is an assistant athletic director and the senior women’s administrator.
